Hi from Ewe Knit

Hi all.  Just got back from TNNA, the big market for retailers.  We had a blast and learned a whole lot while there.  It was in Columbus, Ohil at the convention center.  I took classes from Melissa Leapman, Debbie Macomber and Mike took a class on marketing through the internet and email.  I took more classes and will be telling you about them soon.  Got to spend time with Debbie Macomber, just sitting and talking about 'stuff' and knitting and writing books, you name it.  Her books are actually about her town where she lives.  All of her neighbors love the fact that they are "transparently" renamed in her books.  It brings lots of business to her town. 

 

Can you believe I finally got my sign up on the building?  I can't!  I finally look like I am in business!  A lot more people have realized we are here since it went up.  More new classes are coming.  I am working them up now.  We will have our regular Knit Night this coming Thursday at 6:30 right here on Cedar Street.  I hope you all can come out and work on your projects with us.  I am having a sale this week.  Come in and check it out.  I am not sure what ALL I am putting on sale, but thought it was a good time to have one.  People need to start working on their Christmas gifts, so it is a good time to have a sale!  A lot of things are changing around here, so you have to keep coming in to keep up with everything.  You just never know what is next!

Here is Kitty Hazelkorn explaining about her market bag.  She is a market bag queen!  She has a bag full of them and is selling them.  Woo Hoo!!!!!!  Great job, Kitty.

Beverly Dittmer will be spending more time in the store starting next week.  She has graciously offered her services as an intern to me and I am going to take advantage!  She is about to start her training for Master Knitter and wants to learn more about how the store operates, knitting and everything.  She's going to be a big help when I am swamped with classes and alterations and need a helping hand.  Thanks, Bev.

Here is Lily with her own pigtails now.  She's grown out of her little hat (at right).  I know you can't really see her tutu, but we are going to carry tutus in our little boutique that we are setting up soon.  Keep watching for what is happening on that and all classes, etc.  Pretty soon, I think she may learn to knit.  She had two of my giant needles yesterday trying to 'play' them! 

Remember, we are doing embroidery, sewing, alterations, knitting and crochet classes and who knows what else!  Even some macrame jewelry in the near future. 

Come in and sit a spell, knit or crochet a spell and get out of the HEATTTTTTTTTT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We'd love to visit with you.

June 17th and more news

Hi all.

I hope you are enjoying your weekend and having an extra day off. I know I am going to enjoy the heck out of the 2, count 'em, 2 days I am taking off! After Tuesday, I hope Mike and I will be able to park in our garage again after about 3 years! When I moved Ewe Knit to the Trojan Center, I put all the stuff I had extra in the garage...where it is still sitting! This weekend (after I close today) will be spent sorting, packing and categorizing yarn, books, projects and put into the storage unit I just rented from J & J Storage! Then I will be able to just go to the unit, look for the right clear plastic box that I need to move back to the store and VOILA! I will have what I need. What a great idea! I know Mike will appreciate not having to go out in the rain to unlock and enter his car~!


This month (June) we will be having Knit Night on different weeks from the norm and it may continue thru July. We have been invited by Dorothy Pittman of Horton Books to come to the square on Thursday, June 17th to join the merchants for night in town. We are to bring our knitting or crocheting, chairs and have a Knit Night out there. It sounded like load of fun and when I ran it past the Knit Nighters last Thursday, we all agreed it would be a good thing to do. We will get more exposure and maybe meet some new people who didn't know we have a yarn shop in town! I appreciate Dorothy's invitation and hopes that we will get new customers out of this. She thinks it might be going on all year, but they are trying it out this summer.


In case of rain on that night, we are invited to move into the coffee shop right beside Horton's. Either rain or shine...we will still have loads of fun. Mark your calendars for more events on the third Thursdays, plus this one. Hope you all can come.


As you know, Mike and I will be attending the yarn market in Columbus, Ohio again this year. We went last year and met more reps and found more neat stuff. Thursday, the Sales Manager of Universal Yarns came down, checked out the shop and invited Mike and me to hang out with Debbie Macomber!!!!! I am scheduled to be in her class on Friday morning (I think it is) and Kathy said for us to come to the Universal booth around 2 where Debbie will be. Universal is selling her new yarn line and Debbie will be giving away patterns and signing them! Maybe I can get some pictures with her and bring them back to show you! Yay!


Come to the store June 10th, 11th and 12th and support Sandy and Ronda who will be having WAYYYYYYYYYY too much fun while I am away! Last year when I got back, Ronda wanted to know when I was leaving again so she could run the store again! Who knows...they might be having a party or something. I may never know! ha!


Book Night will be starting back up when we return. Our book nights are fun, because we listen to books on tape and sit there and knit or crochet, eat and have fun. It's not your regular book club thing. The first one will be A Shop on Blossom St because Debbie gave them to Kathy, the sales manager, and told her to give the extras to a shop or two. Well...we got one! I am going to try and get Debbie to autograph the box when I see her. I know you have probably already read the book, but hearing it is quite different!


I am still rearranging the wool room so that I can put my little boutique on one wall in there. More to come on that later, but I will be selling already made items for those who need a quick gift or who just doesn't want to have to make it! It's a win-win thing. I am also looking into selling on Facebook! There is an ap for that now and I am investigating it.

Knit Night, Classes and Stitches South

Stitches South and Knit Night and classes

Hey all. I started this note yesterday and got kicked off the computer! I will just try again. ha!


We went to Stitches South Saturday and Mike and I went back Sunday to talk to some of my reps about some neat stuff we want to do. All had a good time and I guess you saw my post that Bev Dittmer won one of the big prizes Sunday! That's great!


Art yarns was there and I talked with leslie, my rep and she is coming sometime maybe in June to do a workshop for us. They have more kits available and we are going to learn to do the process up to the washing and drying. The projects look like a lot of fun and they are really classy looking! We are going to do one of the easier ones first and then maybe have another class later in the summer. We will talk about the dates and I will get back to you.


More classes are coming. Next week May 4 Tuesday, 6-8, Wed May 5 10:30 - 12:30 or 2-4 Wow your friends! learn to make your own kids and yourself some shorts! Easy peasy class, ending with a pair of shorts. What could be better? Bring your own sewing machine, scissors, thread, tape measure, all accessories and the supply list we give you. Cost of the class is $35 which includes the pattern for the shorts or pants. You also learn to read a pattern.


Thursday, May 6 10:30 - 12:30 or 2-4 Learn to make the cute little pillowcase dress that is all the rage right now. This easy method will have you making a bunch of these little things and possibly selling them to friends! Bring your sewing machine and all accessories. Class list can be emailed to you when you sign up. Cost of the class: $30 plus supplies.


Coming in June: SUMMER CAMPS!!! Knit and Crochet! Also, SEWING


Also available, mother and child sewing. 2 hour class and you come out with something you have made. Sign up early for these classes before they fill up. Learn something you can actually use all your life!


Beginning Knitting: Tuesday, May 4 2-4 Cost: $35 for the first 2 hour class, plus supplies. Learn to cast on and knit and how to keep the sides straight. Come on and have some fun. Start making scarves for winter NOW.


Beginning Crochet Wed. May 5 2-4 Cost: $35 for first 2 hours plus supplies. Always wanted to know how to crochet? Well this class can fill the bill. learn to chain, single and possibly Double Crochet and how to make the edges straight. You CAN do it!


Want to start a project but have no clue where to start? We can make a class just for you! Sign up for a lesson and bring your project. The first class is $35 and $20 for the additional Lessons you might need. Friday, May 7 1-3 first lesson in Project Class. Call early to get your spot.


This Thursday, April 30 is Knit Night 6:30 - 8:30. Come on out and enjoy the fellowship. Bring a project that you can work on independently, without help and sit with us, talk, work on your stuff, and just plain have fun. You can even bring your charity stuff you are working on and do it here. Make this your Happy Place!

Signs are up and we're having Knit Night. Stitches is Saturday, too

Well, the signs are up. Check out the new picture on the Ewe Knit page. There is a double-sided sign at the road, too. More is going to be done to that one, but it is up and that is what counts right now! High Definition Signs put them up yesterday.




This Thursday is Knit Night. Please come and knit or crochet with us. We have a great time! Also, Saturday is Stitches. Yay!!!! I need to have a count of all who will be going. My email is not letting me send out large mailings right now, so I have to depend on Facebook to help me out. If you are definitely going, comment on either my page or the store page. WE will meet here at 9 am Saturday morning. Bring enough money to get in and for lunch. Also, you will need money if you are going to make purchases.  Or...you can throw a sandwich in your knitting bag and you can eat with us there. This is going to be great fun and I hope you can make it!


In the coming days, I will be offering Spa Night. Anyone interested can let me know. I will teach you how to make spa products like: bath salts and soap and how to present them for a great, never to be forgotten gift for someone! And...you saved LOTS of money making it yourself. This is just one of several classes we will be having that are different. At the spa class, we plan on having some tea and crumpets (cookies) and just make a night of it. Stay tuned for more....


Shannon Dunbabin, owner of Cascade Yarn, came yesterday to see our store, take pictures, blog about us and then sat down and talked to us about yarn. She explained about how waslable wool is made. Some people think it is coated with acrylic...no...the little burrs are removed and that makes the wool not felt anymore. She explained that Knit Picks put out a release not too long ago and admitted that instead of taking these little thingeys off they just GLUED THEM DOWN! Yuk! No wonder it is not a good feeling wool! Anyway, some cheaper yarns are actually coated with stuff other than glue, but at some point the stuff will start to felt! Who knew? So, folks, it pays to buy good yarn. Right? Right!

We had a good time looking at all the beautiful yarn and talking. Shannon invited any of us who would like to for a visit to Cascade's booth. If anyone has made anything out of her yarns, bring it with you and she is going to take pictures of all the stuff you have made and post it on the blog! How fun!

Come on over Thursday night and knit or crochet with us and just relax. That is the main reason, besides socializing, we have Knit Night. There are 5 Thursdays in the month so we will be having Knit Night Next WEEK, too! 2 in a row. Whooo hoooo. Come and check out the new yarn, too.

New stuff coming in and more classes@ Knit Night is Thursday the 28th

Hey there!  I hope you are all staying warm.  This is the worst stuff.  One day warm, one day cold, one day your head is nearly blown off by the wind.  I am ready for spring! 

Come to Knit Night this Thursday the 28th at 6:30.  We have such a good time and get to chill out away from troubles and worries.  Bring what you are working on and just relax.  We are still working on our projects for charities, also.  The chemo center, women's center, men's shelter, etc are needing stuff.  Bring in your charity things and get 15% off that day's shopping.  Not too shabby!  These items are appreciates so much and touch so many lives.  Thank you for participating!

Coming one day this week is the new Cascade Yarn order!  It's just like Christmas again when all the stuff comes in.  So much fun.   Certain books are still 50% off and selections of magazines are 30% off.  Come check them out before they are gone.  I was running out of room for more, so I had to get some cleared out. 

I am having a color knitting (Intarsia) class on Saturday at 1.  If you want to be in it, just give me a call!  Also, we have an intarsia knitting class on the 29th at 10:30.  Maybe one of these will be at a time you need. 
Monday the 1st at 10:30 or from 4-6 we are having the 30 minute skirt class.  Sign up early so you get a spot.  Also on the first at 6:30 we are having another pajama pants class.  This is a great beginner class.  It is a 2 parter, so the second one is the second.  The class is $50 plus your supplies.  We also have a pattern for $5 instead of $15 or 16!  Great savings.  On Monday the 8th is a Tote Bag class at 6 and at 10:30 is the magic pillowcase class.  Tues the 9th...Machine Basics and Reading a Pattern from 6-8 and the 30 MInute skirt is from 2-4. 

I am also teaching twined knitting, easiest fingerless gloves, Socks, crochet a mother or daughter hat to felt, and beginning knitting or crochet.  Call for more info. 

I just got in some more needles and boy am I glad!  They just couldn't come in fast enough. Seems that sometimes the things I order just don't come or they come wayyyyyyyyy too late.  These actually were pretty fast.

Having trouble figuring something out?  Give me a call and we can set you up a lesson time so you can get some help.  These lessons are $20 for up to an hour.

The alterations side of Ewe Knit is taking off.  This is great.  The word is getting out!  Yay!

New Classes! Look at the Calendar

Hey there. Much has been happening around here. I know it has been a long time since I blogged. Got caught up in what was going on Christmas, Thanksgiving ... New Years' and Inventory! Yuk! Inventory! Hate it! I love getting the new stuff in, but when it comes to counting it-ARRRGGGHHHHHHHHH I tried this year to put on the best sale ever and did. A lot of the stuff had NEVER been on sale before. Now I have room to put the new stuff on shelves! More is coming in...some yesterday.

I have a new calendar for January and am finishing up the one for February. More sewing classes, new knitting and crochet techniques and new ways of doing things.

Go to my facebook profile (Linda Sanders Barnett) and click on the Notes Tab. My new calendar is in there. Machine Basics and Pattern Reading, Twined Knitting, Pajama Pants the easy way, just to name a few. If you aren't in Facebook but are in my email list, check your email for the email. I sent it out on Sunday night.

Come in soon and check out the new stuff. Oh, and I have a new felting washer! We can do felting classes now! Not just the knitting or crochet part. How fun it is. Had to wait till I got hot water (got it Monday) so we could even use it.

Open House, Library Exhibit

Hey everybody!

We are in and planning our big open house this Saturday from 10 to 4! We have prizes, drawings, food, free classes being given away, yarn and I haven't decided what else yet! It's going to be loads of fun and you can even come and sit down with us and knit or crochet. This place is great so far! I had 12 new customers (most of whom had never heard of us!) in the first week and a half. That's pretty good, huh!

I have an announcement to make. In addition to knit and crochet and sewing lessons, I will be doing alterations! Probably late next week I will be ready to start. We are still wading out from under all this yarn! Ha! Got my office cleaned out yesterday, so now I can actually see the floor! Yay!

Everybody has been pleased with the new store and the excitement seems to build every day. We love it here and when all the improvements that are being done are actually finished, it will be home for us! It already has that feel.

Maybe the sign will go up this week if we can get all the materials and the rain will hold off. If not...the sign will still be propped against the house! That works, too.

Come and visit and be sure not to miss the open house Saturday! Also, Knit Night is 9-24 from 6:30 to 8:30. Now we will get back on schedule!

I would like to thank all the folks who came out and helped us pack, move, straighten up, give encouragement and still come in to see what I need done. Ya'll are a great bunch of folks and I love you all. Mike and I are amazed at all the people who just want to help and help us make it in this business. It is a great feeling to know we are loved and appreciated. We love you and appreciate you. Words can never express what we feel. Carolyn Richie and Amy brought a flower arrangement for us to enjoy and Joy Park brought potted irises Saturday. These were a nice surprise for us. You didn't know that I LOVE flowers and love having them around me. Thank you!!!!

Again, thank you for all you do and have done for us. Hope to see you Saturday, or before!

OH! I almost forgot! I am Artist of the Month at the Bremen Library, so if you find a minute or two, go by and check out my display. I went by this morning and took a few more things for display. Thank you Carolyn and Amy for nominating me! This is fun!

We are in the new place!

The new place is going to be so much fun. WE are having Knit Night tonight since we were packing last Thursday. Instead of having another one next Thursday at the regular time, we are going to have an Open House on Saturday, September 19th from 10 til 3. Come and check out the new place. Lots of stuff going on! Prizes, food and who knows what else. I will be giving away lessons, yarn, maybe a kit or two and a shawl! You can register for the shawl from now till the 19th, so come and register and ...while you're here...shop!

There are separate rooms for Encore yarn, acrylics and blends, baby stuff and patterns and a room for wool and wool blends, plus some specialty yarns. The needles and accessories are in the first room. More elbow room for all of you who just like to 'graze' the yarns, take your time, think about what you want or whatever. There is still a sitting place for husbands! Mine will be here on Saturdays and Mondays, just like usual.

Some things are still a little torn up and will be finished up hopefully soon. We're open anyway!

As always, it is open if you just want to come and sit and knit or crochet. Sit and relax, drink some coffee, and talk with others who love our craft! This is more like a home, so come on and enjoy it with us.

More Space! Better Parking! More Classes!

Ewe Knit Yarn, Accessories and Classes Notice!!!!!! Ewe Knit Yarn, Accessories and Classes will be relocating August 31st! Our new location will be: 815 Cedar Street, Carrollton, GA 30117. There will be private parking and more space inside. We are moving to a quaint house that has many, many possibilities for us to expand, be more open and more light. We also plan to have a huge open house after we move and show off the new place. In some ways it reminds me of Hansel and Gretel as I enter the front door!

Go by and look at the house. I put up a banner (yellow one from first house) on the sign out front of it. It grabs attention because of the color! We will be starting the move on the Friday before Sept 1st(August 28th). This move should be almost seamless (we hope). We are so excited that we are going to have more space, more rooms to party, play, knit, crochet, teach in and who knows what else I will come up with that we can do in there!

In coming months, we plan to add more retail stuff to our store - maybe stuff we have made or someone else has made, or maybe handmade baby clothes and accessories - we just are not sure yet. I want this new place to be a 'Happy Place' as have the others we have had. This one even has a small kitchen in it! Yay! And an actual place to put a coffee pot and goodies. Another Yay! The excitement is building as we plan what is going where and just the fact that it is almost like a brand new start for everybody. Our phone number is not changing, so you can still call and get directions during and after the move.

Everyone wants to know can we move now?!?!?!?!?!? I wish...We wouldn't have lights, water, phone or anything, so I guess we have to wait a few weeks. I really do appreciate everybody's enthusiasm. It is spurring me on and making me more and more anxious to get into the house!

Who knows! We may even be able to rent a room out for parties, meetings or knit/crochet sleepovers or something. What fun would THAT be!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

Life in a yarn store

Hi all. I hope your day is going well. Mine is better than most! That is a good thing. It's been busy here most of the day until a little while ago. We got really busy and stayed that way until after lunch. That's the way I like it! Lots of sales, lots of customers, friends dropping by, etc...Keeps Mike and me talking and socializing.

This Thursday and next Thursday are Knit Nights. We decided to have 3 this month because there are 5 Thursdays. Usually there are only 4. Some of our friends will be out of town, but I hope the ones who are still here will come by and sit and knit/crochet with us. We will be talking about the Yarn Addicts knit/crochet club. I want to have that meeting on another night so that the ones who come for Knit Night won't feel like they have to belong. We will be doing charity work and making stuff for our favorite charities at this new club meeting. If any of you want to be a member, or just want to come to Knit Night, just let me know and your name will be on the list. We will have fun!

We just got another big shipment from Plymouth Yarn and there is some really pretty yarns in it. Come by and check us out! Also we got yarns from other companies. They are all beautiful and makes ya wanna pet the yarn!

I am taking suggestions on the kinds and types of classes you want to see me post and teach. I have ongoing learn to knit or crochet classes whenever you want to learn. It just makes it easier for folks who work different hours to be able to come and take classes. So...if you have suggestions, just let me hear them!

Now is the time to start making Christmas gifts. It is really NEVER too early to start. Be thinking of what you are planning to make and come on in and get your supplies and set up a class if you need help with the stuff!

If you have a club that wants to learn to knit/crochet, just let me know and we can set up a special classtime to do this. I have enough room in here to accomodate about 25 or 30 tightly packed students. Also, I have had quite a few people to request sewing classes! If there is a real interest in this, I can do that, too. I sewed for the public for about 30 or 40 years. I know that sounds strange, but there isn't anybody around here to do it. We need a fabric store here in Carrollton, don't we?!?!?!?

The short needles still have not come. I think somebody screwed up the order again and they have been sent to Timbuktu again. Oh, well, I guess they will come soon.

Watch the blog and email for the sale coming up. Anyone bringing in hats for the chemo and breast wellness centers will get 10% discount. If I happen to forget, just remind me and I will either give it to you that day (if you buy something) or I will give it to you on your next purchase. That's fair, isn't it?!

Ronda Cole brought her brother and his family into the store today. It was great finally getting to meet them. Her brother, Brad, was saying how much he liked the store and his wife, Sherrie, loves it, but Brad said it looks like I need to move to a bigger spot! Well, he's right. But I think I will just have to keep moving things around and make more room if only a smidgeon. Being close makes it more fun, I guess. H-mmmmmmm. I don't know where to put anything else. Help!!!! Come buy a bunch of stuff so I can have more room for the things coming. Hey! That would work! Ha!

Happy Birthday to my nephew, Ian! He's 13 today.

Knit Night

Well, tonight is Knit Night and hopefully we will have a bunch of people here. We have such a good time that I am sure that when others find out...we may have to buy some more chairs! Come and get to know other knitters and crocheters.

I think the World Wide Knit in Public Day Saturday is going to be a great success. Should be fun, too.

Getting ready for the TNNA show

Hey there.

I am getting ready to take Lily's Pigtails to the TNNA show this weekend and Kollage Yarns is promoting it! It's exciting, but scary, too. All the yarn and embroidery shops go to this show to see all the new stuff that is coming out and possibly buy for the next season. I have never been before, so it will be a whole new experience for me.

Today I got in some new yarn from Universal Yarn. It is accompanied by a book using that yarn. It's the Garden Collection. BEAUTIFUL stuff.

Saturday is the World Wide Knit in Public Day, so hopefully we will have a lot of people sitting outside knitting and crocheting and having a ball. And I hope they come in and buy yarn and stuff while they are here! Ha!

Knit Night is tomorrow night, so we are gearing up for that. We have a lot of fun at these. People just sit and do their projects while talking and having a good time.
